A novel chemical, fluorochlorocyclopropane (I) of the following formula:
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="13" wi="85" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>is prepared by the addition of fluorochlorocarbene to the corresponding olefin (II) of the following formula:

The compound is a useful intermediate for synthesizing some chemicals, e.g., some cephalosporins.
