PURPOSE:To provide a fluorescent material composed of fluorobromide of Y and Ba doped with Eu, exhibiting intense accelerated phosphorescence, and suitable especially for an X-ray image conversion panel. CONSTITUTION:The objective fluorescent material is represented by the formula (M is Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Zn or Cd; X is Cl, Br or I; 0<a<=0.67; 0<x<=0.5; 10<-6= y<=2X10<-1>). The fluorescent material can be prepared preferably by pulverizing the raw materials with a mill, putting the powder into a refractory vessel such as crucible, and calcining in a reducing atmosphere at 700-950 deg.C for 1- 6hr. A further improved result can be attained by calcining the product again under the above calcination condition.
