PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a cyclic olefin polymer efficiently even in an industrial scale, the polymer being in a slurry containing a solvent, the cyclic olefin polymer which is hardly soluble in the solvent, and an impurity which is soluble in the solvent; and a method for producing a cyclic olefin polymer using the purification method.SOLUTION: Provided is a purification method of a cyclic olefin polymer comprising: a step (A-I) of separating a slurry containing a solvent, a cyclic olefin polymer hardly soluble in the solvent, and an impurity soluble in the solvent into a wet cake, in which a content of the impurity which is soluble in the solvent is 1.2 pts.wt. or less per 100 pts.wt. of the wet cake, and a filtrate; and a step (A-II) of obtaining a preliminary concentrated solution by preliminarily concentrating the filtrate obtained in the step (A-I) without precipitating the impurity which is soluble in the solvent.
