发明名称 Rinsable bedpan bag
摘要
A bag 10 is made of biodegradable material in the form of paper with a high dry strength and no wet strength combined with a layer of water-soluble plastic material 32, which is laminated to a part 28 of the outside of the bag 10. As especially described, the bag 10 is of a size to accommodate a bedpan 12, but may also be of some other size sufficient, for example, to accommodate a vomit bowl or the like, and the bag 10 is completely sealed around the bedpan 12, so that the aseptic characteristics of a sterile bedpan are constantly maintained, any possible contact between the bedpan 12 and the patient or excreta from the patient being prevented, so that cleaning and sterilisation of bedpans, vomit bowls and the like is not necessary, which means considerable savings in time, labour and costs in patient care. After use, the bag 10 is easily separated from the bedpan 12 with the aid of a opening seam 34 and is rinsed out into the drainage system through an ordinary WC, the water soluble plastic being dissolved by the running water; the paper is disintegrated so that the drainage system does not become blocked. The water soluble plastic 32 has the characteristics that it retains its strength at temperatures in excess of 60 degrees F (15.5 degrees C), so that excreta at body temperature will not dissolve the plastic material 32. On the other hand, the plastic is dissolved in water at temperatures of less than approximately 60 degrees F (15.5 degrees C). When it is placed in a rinsing funnel or the like the running water, which has a temperature of less then approximately 60 degrees F (15.5 degrees C) will dissolve the plastic.
