2-(3-Iodo-2-propynyloxy)ethanolcarbamates of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> and R<2> are identical or different and denote hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl groups having 1-6 carbon atoms or cyclic alkyl groups having 5-7 carbon atoms, or R<1> and R<2> together denote -(CH2)n, in which n is 4-6, R<3>, R<4>, R<5> and R<6> which are identical or different, denote hydrogen, alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms, aryl groups or CCl3, where R<3> and R<5> or R<4> and R<6> together denote -(CH2)n, where n is 3-5, and R denotes hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl groups having 1-12 carbon atoms or cyclic alkyl groups having 4- 8 carbon atoms, aryl groups, substituted aryl groups, aralkyl groups or arylsulphonyl groups. The compounds of formula I can be prepared by reacting equimolar quantities of the alcohols of the general formula II <IMAGE> with suitable isocyanates of the general formula III OCN - R, III where the symbols in the formulae, i.e. R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5>, R<6> and R, have the meanings given for the formula I. The compounds of the formula I have an antimicrobial effect.
