PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer suitable as flocculant, by adding specific acid(s) to a partially hydrolysed acrylamide polymer dried to such a state as to contain specified amount of water to easily remove the residual NH3 in said polymer also with no adverse effect on its flocculation performance, etc. CONSTITUTION:A water-contg. gel-like polymer (pref. with a water content 65- 90wt%) derived from the polymerization of acrylamide-contg. aqueous solution is granulated so as to be pref. 2-5mm. in granular size followed by adding KOH- or alkali carbonate aqueous soln. to perform partial hydrolysis. The resulting product is dried to such a state as to contain <=20wt% of water followed by adding to the polymer thus dried pref. 0.1-10wt% based on said polymer, of at least one sort of compound selected from fumaric acid, succinic acid and adipic acid, thus obtaining the objective polymer. Furthermore, 0.01-0.5wt% based on said polymer, of a liquid polyalkylene glycol at room temperature as a spreading agent is preferably added in combination with the acid(s).
