PURPOSE:To form a thick paint layer on the surface of a material to be coated by retracting the tip position of a needle electrode of a painting gun by more than half the radius from the tip of a cylindrical body. CONSTITUTION:The tip position of a needle electrode 3 of a painting gun having the electrode 3 at the center of a powder passage 2 for a cylindrical body is retracted from the tip of the body 1 by a distance L of more than half the diameter D thereof. Then the electrostatic repulsion in the paint layer is prevented by the decreased ion current and a thick paint layer is formed.
