PURPOSE:To improve the reliability by providing a circuit discriminating an operating element of a group of a selected switch element to a circuit generating a signal energizing selectively the switch element so as to generate a proper command signal when the number of failed switch elements is a prescribed number or below. CONSTITUTION:A supporting plate 3 is supported by a lever 2 of an automatic speed changer and the position of magnets 1-1'' for generating a signal fitted to the lever 2 is changed by operating the lever 2. The position change causes magnetism sensing elements 41-45, 41''-45'' fitted to the supporting plate 3 to be energized sequentially and the elements 41-45, 41''-45'' generate a speed command corresponding to the operating position. The signal generator is provided with a discriminating circuit 50 comprising circuit elements 51-55 inputting output signals S1-S5, S1''-S5'' of the elements 41-45, 41''-45'' attended with the operation of the lever 2. Moreover, whether or not the operating element number N selected by the lever 2 is in the relation of N-n>=1 to the operating element number (n) of other element groups is discriminated by the circuit 50 and when this relation exists, a proper command signal is generated.
