Method of operating a burner (10') with fuel/air mixture, the combustion air (21) being preheated. By changing the temperature of the combustion air (21), the weight of the air, with the same air throughput, will change, so that the weight ratio of the mixture also changes. It is proposed to regulate the combustion air supply (23) and/or the fuel supply (31) to the burner as a function of the combustion air temperature in such a manner that an optimum mixture weight ratio is maintained at different stages of operation.
