PURPOSE:To prevent a face image and a background image from being formed on a display surface and to obtain an easy-to-see image by providing a light- diffusing material at part or whole of the peripheral wall of a housing which holds a solid-state display element and an ocular lens at specific distance in one body. CONSTITUTION:A diffusion window 17 made of the light diffusing material is provided to part of the peripheral wall of the front chamber 11A of the housing 11 which holds the ocular lens 16 and solid-state display element 13 at specific distance in one body, and an image projected on the solid-state display element 13 according to a video signal supplied from a video circuit 14 is lighted uniformly with illumination light which is admitted into the front chamber 11A externally through the diffusion window 17, so that a sharp image is seen through the ocular lens 16. The display surface of the solid-state display element 13 is not exposed to the outside directly, so a face image and a background image are not formed on the display surface.
