An orbital-action reciprocating power saw (10) includes a motor-driven transmission that causes a saw blade carrier (20) to reciprocate along an axis of reciprocation and move in a direction transverse to the axis of reciprocation to provide an aggressive cutting action. The transmission includes a rotary-to-reciprocation drive mechanism (32) defined by a rotatably driven gear (50) having an eccentrically mounted pin (60) that engages a slotted yoke (20b) connected to the saw blade carrier (20). The saw blade carrier (20) is mounted in a "ftoating" bearing (30) that accommodates both reciprocation and movement in a direction transverse to the reciprocation axis. A rocker arm (68) is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends with one end (68a) engaging the floating bearing mount (40) and the other end (68b) engageable with an axial-face cam portion (74) of the rotatably driven gear (50). The rocker arm (68) is effective to move the saw blade carier (20) in a direction transverse to the axis of reciprocation to provide the desired orbital action.
