PURPOSE:To make stable and high-precision seek operation and track following- up possible by attaching a head directly to a main actuator without passing an auxiliary actuator. CONSTITUTION:One head is attached to a carriage 5 without passing auxiliary actuators 3 and is called a fixed head 6. In case of the seek operation, the number of traversed tracks is counted by the fixed head to position the head to an objective track. Simultaneously with or a little before this positioning, individual heads 2 are allowed to follow up the objective track by auxiliary actuators 3. In case of the track following-up operation, this operation is performed by a main actuator 4 for track deflection of a frequency lower than a set frequency and is performed by auxiliary actuators 3 for that higher than the set frequency. Position signals corresponding to the fixed head 6 may be on faces corresponding to heads 2 connected to auxiliary actuators 3 or a face for the fixed head may be provided independently. |
