PURPOSE:To lower stably the water content of coke, by utilizing the relationship between red-hot coke on a quenching car and a water sprinkling quantity for quenching it. CONSTITUTION:The relationship between the temp. of red-hot coke just before a quenching car enters a quenching tower and a water sprinkling quantity required for obtaining coke having a given water content without firing, is determined. When a quenching car 1 traveling in the direction of an arrow reaches the entrance of a quenching tower 6, the temp. of red-hot coke 2 placed thereon is detected by a temperature-detecting device 3 and the resulting signal is transferred to a water sprinkling-controlling device 4. The device 4 controls a solenoid valve 7 by utilizing the relationship between the temp. of red-hot coke and the water- sprinkling quantity input into the device, whereby a proper quantity of quenching water is fed from a head tank to a water sprinkling pipe within the quenching tower.
