PURPOSE:To obtain a Zn alloy for a sliding member having improved seizing resistance, wear resistance and load resistance by mixing a Zn-Al-Cu-Si alloy having a prescribed composition with a small amount of Mg and by casting the resulting alloy. CONSTITUTION:This cast Zn alloy consists of, by weight, 3-30% Al, 0.5-5% Cu, 0.2-5% Si, 0.0005-1% Mg and the balance Zn. The alloy is especially sensitive to an extreme-pressure additive contg. sulfur, and superior extreme- pressure films are formed on the sliding surfaces of the alloy and a material confronting the alloy by the synergistic effect of Si and Mg. The extreme- pressure films have a more satisfactory wetting property to lubricating oil than the virgin surfaces and hold well lubricating oil. Accordingly, the Zn alloy for a sliding member shows superior performance in the presence of lubricating oil contg. especially an extreme-pressure additive contg. sulfur.
