PURPOSE:To accomplish reliable separation by electrostatically adsorbing the leading end of a transfer sheet separated from a photosensitive body by means of an auxiliary separation roller capable of freely moving and separating and transferring the sheet in an apparatus for separating the transfer sheet from a photoreceptor in a copying apparatus. CONSTITUTION:During operation of a copying apparatus, a transfer sheet 2 (indicated by a broken line) is transported from a paper feed cassette 21 to a transfer guide 6 by a pair of transport rollers 14 and then electrostatically closely adhered to a belt photosensitive body 31. A toner image formed on the photoreceptor 31 is transferred to the sheet by charging and transfer charges 9. When the transfer sheet 2 is further advanced to reach a driven roll 31b and the leading end of the transer sheet is instantaneously separated from the photosensitive body 31, the leading end is electrostatically adsorbed to an auxiliary separation roller 10 by charges applied to the sheet itself. Whereupon, the auxiliary roller 10 is moved to the right through a wire 13 wound round a reel 12a to separate the transfer sheet 2 from the photosensitive body 31 and the sheet is conducted into a fixing device 19.
