PURPOSE:To enable the checking of different types of printed circuit boards continuously and quickly with only one detection unit by detecting the movement starting end and the movement ending end of the printed circuit boards during the conveying thereof to determine a reference hole synthesizing them. CONSTITUTION:Reference holes 10a and 10b are bored at the positions near right and left end faces of a printed circuit board 9. A detection unit 12 is provided with sensors 13a and 13b and 14a and 14b and the distances X1 and X2 are made equal to the distances X1' and X2' respectively. Then, as the printed circuit board 9 is conveyed, first, the sensor 14b detects the starting end C of the printed circuit board 9 and turned ON, subsequently, the sensor 14a detects the starting end C thereof 9 and turned ON and the presence of one reference hole 10a of the printed circuit board 9 is detected with the sensor 13a. When all of the reference holes 10a are bored, the printed circuit board 9 is further conveyed and the sensor 14b changes from ON to OFF as the movement finishing end D of the printed circuit board 9 passes. At the same time, the presence of the other reference hole 10b of the printed circuit board 9 is detected with the sensor 13b.
