PURPOSE:To prevent sticking of organisms in an alternately operating system consisting of plural lines by setting a period for exhausting sea water from a line and maintaining under exhausted condition and a period for passing sea water through the line alternately. CONSTITUTION:In a plant using sea water comprising a system operating plural lines alternately, valves 11, 12 are opened, a water drain valve 15 and a ventilation valve are closed, and a heat exchanger 5-2 is reserved as a stand-by equipment in an exhausting period. Then, a drain valve 16 and a ventilaion valve 18 are opened after valves 13, 14 are closed, and the sea water contained between the valve 13 and 14 is exhausted almost completely. After maintaining the line under this condition for a specified period, the space between the valve 13 and 14 is filled with sea water, and the valves 11, 12 are closed, and a heat exchanger 5-1 is reserved as a stand-by equipment. The sea water between the valve 11 and 12 is exhausted similarly as executed in the preceded period. By these procedures, sticking of organisms is prevented.
