PURPOSE:To obtain a polyethylene polyamine useful as an ampholyte carrier, by desulfonating an aminesulfonic acid derivative, reacting it with acrylic acid, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by the formula I (Z is sulfone; Z' is H, or sulfone; Y is lower alkyl replaceable ethylene; n is 1-5) is dissolved in >=60wt%, preferably >=80wt% conc. sulfuric acid under heating at 80-120 deg.C. A basic reagent is added to the solution, a formed salt is removed, or, after a reaction under heating is over, conc. sulfuric acid is added to the reaction solution to form a hydrochloride, a solvent such as ethanol, etc. is added to the solution, to prepare precipitate, which is filtered, to give the desired substance shown by the formula II by a conventional desulfonation.
