PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive homogenous catalyst, by supporting a catalytic metal by a catalyst carrier supporting a nonwoven ceramic fiber and refractory oxide. CONSTITUTION:A nonwoven ceramic fiber comprising silica, alumina, titania or zirconia is adhered to a base material comprising a ceramic fabric with a thickness of 1-2mm. made of silica, alumina, silica-alumina or zirconia by using one of refractory oxides such as silica, alumina, titania or zirconia as a binder to form a catalyst carrier. Oxide of a metal such as platinum, rhodium, osmium or ruthenium is supported by said catalyst carrier and the supported carrier is baked.
