PURPOSE:To make improvements in shafting quality as well as to perform setting operations so safely and efficiently, by installing a separate propeller in a frame in advance, and carrying it onto a shipway as one body intact, while inserting it into a stern tube of the hull on the shipway. CONSTITUTION:A propeller shaft is locked onto a frame at the inside of a factory other than a shipway, and a propeller is installed in one end of the shaft. Leaving this propeller shaft and the propeller as one body intact, it is conveyed to the shipway with a conveyor truck. On the shipway, using a crane 13, a sling chain block 10 and a drawing chain block 14, the propeller shaft and the propeller being united in one are inserted into a stern tube of the hull 2. As compared with the conventional method that first the propeller shaft is inserted into the stern tube and then the propeller is installed on the spot on the shipway, this method is able to make a distinct improvement in shafting quality, while setting operations are performable so safely and efficiently.
