PURPOSE:To attain coloring correction without decreasing the number of expression gradations by allowing a gate circuit to stop a pulse in an output device having an input versus output coloring characteristic to correct a low density region. CONSTITUTION:A carry pulse of a counter 3 is retarded by a delay circuit 8, and a pulse width is prolonged by a one-shot multivibrator 9 and a gate circuit 2 selecting the pulse by using the delayed and prolonged signal to stop the clock in a period when no coloring of low gradation is started. Power is applied to the head 7 for a stopped period only, the clock is inputted from a point starting the coloring and the number of expression gradations is counted without decreasing said number, thereby applying coloring correction.
