摘要 PURPOSE:A porous clay material of smectite type that has a relative thick intermediate layer containing a water-soluble high-molecular-weight polymer and an inorganic substance, thus being used as a heat insulator. CONSTITUTION:The objective fine porous clay material has a structure of the figure where columnar inorganic substance b is inserted between the smectite crystal layers a and a of about 10Angstrom thickness at a layer distance d2 of more than 20Angstrom (in the figure the coiled lines represent a water-soluble polymer). The objective material is prepared by mixing 1g of smectite ore such as montmorilonite, with (B) more than 0.4ml of water, (C) about 0.05-1g of an inorganic substance such as silica sol and (D) a water-soluble polymer such as polyacrylic acid derivative, further adding (E) about 10<-4>-10<-2>mol of cations such as cation of elements in groups I B-VII or aluminate ion to effect gelling of the inorganic substance, then the product is dried to remove the water between the layers.
