Rollers (2,3) which can rotate about their axes are firstly arranged with their axes zig-zagging in two mutually parallel planes (5,8). As a result, an optical fibre section (6) can be inserted into a receiving gap (7) formed by the rollers. Each even-numbered roller (3) is constructed such that it can pivot about a pivoting axis individually in the plane (5) of the odd-numbered rollers (2). The pivoting movement is effected by an actuating slide (10) which acts on pivoting arms (21) and simultaneously operates optical fibre clamping elements (9). As a result, initial clamping, meandering curvature and final clamping take place in a continuous progressive fashion, and the optical fibre is not mechanically overstressed. <IMAGE>
