PURPOSE:To attain inexpensively data retrieval at a high speed by using an associated memory having small capacity storing and retrieving only a synonym generated as a result of hashing. CONSTITUTION:A read key value (a) is inputted to a hash circuit 1, an associated memory 3 and a hash table memory 2 at the same time at data retrieval. The key value (a) inputted to the hash circuit 1 is subject to hashing, an address (b) is generated to read the hash table memory 2. When the value of a key section 2-1 of a read code and the key value (a) are coincident, a signal (e) is set, and the data of a data section 2-2 is outputted as a data (c), and when dissident, the signal (e) is reset. Further, the associate memory 3 retrieves a key section 3-1 having a value equal to the input key value (a), and when they are coincident, a signal (g) is set, the data 3-2 is outputted as a data (d), and when dissident, the signal (g) is reset. A selector 4 selects either of the data (c), (d) from the value on/off of the signal (e) and outputs it to a line (f).
