PURPOSE:A specific microorganism capable of production of epoxide is allowed to act on an olefin bearing aromatic rings under aerobic conditions to give the corresponding epoxide bearing aromatic rings. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism in Arthrobacter, Corynebacterium, Mycobacterium or Rhodococcus, capable of production of epoxide is allowed to act on a straight-chain or branched olefin bearing aromatic rings such as phenyl or naphthyl groups under aerobic conditions. The olefin may be brought into contact with the proliferating cell bodies or the microorganism may be cultured in the medium containing the starting olefin. |
