PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which can improve the durability, etc. of a back layer contg. satd. polyester and nitrocellulose having a specific viscosity by laminating a ferromagnetic layer on one surface of a high polymer film and laminating said back layer on the other surface. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metal such as iron, cobalt or nickel is stuck to one surface of the high polymer film by a vacuum deposition method, etc. to form a thin ferromagnetic metallic film. A melt liquid consisting of an inorg. pigment such as carbon black or calcium carbonate with a binder consisting of the satd. polyester and the nitrocellulose having 2-20(Ns/m<2>) viscosity is coated on the other surface of the film to form the back layer. More specifically, the satd. polyester has good adhesion to the high polymer film and the nitrocellulose having 2-20(Ns/m<2>) viscosity has good dispersibility of the inorg. pigment and high hardness. The back layer having excellent durability and electromagnetic conversion characteristic is obtd. by using such binder.
