PURPOSE:To obtain easily a powdery vaccine having an antigenic life over a long period, by recovering Hemophilus paragallinarum and inactivating infectivity with a specific polar solvent, and dehydrating and drying the bacteria with a polar solvent, etc. CONSTITUTION:Bacteria Hemophilus paragallinarum (pathogenic bacteria of avian infectious coryza, and one of Gram-negative bacteria) are cultivated to give a bacterial culture fluid. Alternatively, the above-mentioned bacteria precipitated and separated therefrom are suspended in a buffer solution containing NaCl or physiological saline solution to afford a bacterial suspension. A polar solvent in an amount of 2-6 times that of the above-mentioned bacterial fluid or suspension is added thereto to recover the formed precipitates. The resultant recovered precipitates are suspended further in a polar solvent or ether. The precipitates are then recovered and dried under reduced pressure to give the aimed powdery vaccine of the Hemophilus paragallinarum. The resultant powdery vaccine can be preserved even at ordinary temperature and dissolved in a physiological saline solution or formulated into a tablet or capsule and is easily handled, etc.
