PURPOSE:To always pick up efficiently the image of an object with low illumination by partially masking a secondary surface in accordance with the incident position of high illumination disturbance light included in incident light to interrupt the incidence of the high illumination disturbance light on an image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:A half mirror 3 is arranged between a lens 1 and the image pickup element 2 to separate the incident light LB. The separated incident light LB is irradiated to a two-dimensional photoelectric converter 5 through a lens 4 and the incident position of the high illumination disturbance light more than a fixed level is found out by a signal processing part 6 on the basis of the output signal from the converter 5. The found two-dimensional masking element 8 is partially driven to interrupt the incidence of the high illumination disturbance light into the element 2. Consequently, the incidence of the high illumination disturbance light of which incident position is changed on the element is precisely interrupted and the image pickup of an object with low illumination can be attained.
