PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform slurry of good quality having a low viscosity in high concentration, by dehydrating a coal slurry in a low concentration, mixing the resultant dehydrated slurry with water and an additive, and mixing the resultant slurry with a returned aged slurry in a high concentration. CONSTITUTION:Coal is wet pulverized to give a slurry in low concentration, which is then dehydrated to form a cake. Adjusting water and additive are added thereto, and the resultant slurry is then mixed with a returned uniform aged aqueous slurry of coal in a high concentration. The resultant slurry is then stirred in an aging machine and aged to give a uniform aqueous slurry of coal in a high concentration and give the aimed product. In the process, the above- mentioned slurry is partially returned to a slurry and circulated through a slurry adjusting tank, and a pH adjustor is injected into the slurry in the above- mentioned production process to adjust the pH.
