METALLIC MOLD FOR CASTING AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To disperse and deposite Al2O3 oxide particles to the surface layer part of a copper-base metallic mold consisting of Cu-Al and to obtain the metallic mold having excellent high-temp. strength, heat conductivity and release property by forming said mold, embedding the mold into Cu2O powder and subjecting the mold to a heating treatment under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The metallic mold 1 having a desired shape is formed of a copper-base solid soln. alloy contg. 0.01-5% Al and is fully embeded into the powder mixture 2 consisting of Cu powder: Cu2O powder: Al2O3 powder =1: (0.8-1.2):(0.8-1.5) and having 10-50mum grain size. A cap 4 is put on a vessel 3 to close thoroughly and hermetically the vessel, then the inside thereof is evacuated to 10<-1>-10<-10>Torr and the vessel is heated and held for 1-30hr to and at 800-1.050 deg.C. The metallic mold for casting formed with the inside oxide layer dispersed and deposited with the oxide particles of Al2O3 in the surface layer of the copper base has the excellent high-temp. strength, heat conductivity and release property.
