PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition capable of preventing tarnish or corrosion for a long period even in the presence of highly concd. corrosive gas by combining triazoles with volatile substances acting as an auxiliary in the formation and retention of a protective film such as diketones or acid amides. CONSTITUTION:This rust preventive composition contains one or more kinds of triazoles and one or more kinds of compounds selected among diketones, acid amides, dicarboxylic acids, dicarboxylic esters and acid imides as effective components. Since the effective components are volatile substances, volatilized substances form a protective film on an article to be protected without directly treating the article with the composition and can produce a rust preventing effect. The bond of triazoles to a nonferrous metal is stabilized by one or more kinds of compounds such as diketones as an auxiliary, high bonding strength is synergistically attained, and the rust preventing effect is increased.
