PURPOSE:To obtain the titled alloy exhibiting a pitting corrosion resistance superior against a severely corrosive content by specifying the compsn. consisting of Cu, Mn and Al. CONSTITUTION:The alloy for food container consists of 0.2-0.8wt% Cu, 0.5- 1.5% Mn, if necessary, further 0.05-0.35% Cr, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities and is superior in pitting corrosion resistance. Said alloy exhibits the superior pitting corrosion resistance also with respect to the severely corrosive content contg. a large quantity of Cl ion, etc., and pitting corrosion acceleration due to galvanic action can be suppressed when used together with nobler material than Al electrochemically. Among said components to be added, Cu has the effect making the Al alloy noble electrochemically, Mn makes the alloy noble electrochemically, further, improves the corrosion resistance and the strength, and Cr improves the strength of the alloy, makes it noble electrochemically, further improves the corrosion resistance.
