NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I. USE:A synthetic intermediate for 3-methyl-1,5-pentanediol and a synthetic intermediate for medicines and perfumes. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II (R is H, lower alkyl or 5- oxo-3-methylpentyl) is reacted with 3-methyl-3-buten-1-ol in the presence of an acid catalyst, preferably Lewis acid at 20-100 deg.C to give the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
