PURPOSE:To obtain a medium having a vertical magnetic recording layer which is excellent in the uniform dispersibility of hexagonal Ba ferrite powder by incorporating a specific titanate coupling agent as a dispersion assistant for said ferrite powder together with nitricellulose which is a binder component into said powder. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic paint contg. the titanate coupling agent expressed by formula I (R1=CnH2n+1; 3<=n<=13, R2=CnH2n+1, 3<=n<=13 or the group expressed by formula II) as the dispersion assistant for the hexagonal Ba ferrite and the nitrocellulose resin as the binder is prepd. Such paint is coated on a base consisting of a polyester film or the like and is dried while the coating is subjected to an orientation treatment by a magnetic field, thereby forming the magnetic layer. The vertical magnetic recording medium for high-density recording which is improved in the dispersibility of the fine particulate Ba ferrite and has the excellent squareness ratio, etc. is thus obtd.
