PURPOSE:To decolor effectively titanium tetrachloride, by adding a specific oxide to titanium tetrachloride, heating them, separating titanium tetrachloride. CONSTITUTION:A porous material (porous material of MgO, Al2O3, or SiO3, obtained by calcining diatomaceous earth, clay, etc. and activated clay, zeolite, brick, etc. containing one or more of oxides of Mg, Al, and Si) is used. Namely, colored titanium tetrachloride [one having quality of about first class grade chemical of JIS (specific gravity; 1.72-1.76, iron content; <=0.001, heavy metal content; <=0.002, colored in light yellow)] is blended with about 1/100,000-1/100 of the porous material of oxide, heat-treated, and titanium tetrachloride is separated by distillation.
