An articulated automotive vehicle, such as a fork-lift truck, comprises a forward vehicle section 11 which is pivotally connected to a rearward vehicle section 12 by means of a vertical journal shaft 13. Under normal driving conditions the vehicle runs on carrying wheels 19, 20, 21 and can be turned with the aid of control means 14. In order to reduce the requisite turning radius of the vehicle to a minimum, at least one of the vehicle sections is provided with an auxiliary wheel 22, 23 which extends substantially transversely to its carrying wheels and which can be moved into engagement with the ground 18 or other supporting surface by means of a jack (24, Figure 2), so as to lift the carrying wheels 21 of that section from the ground 18. The raised section of the vehicle can then be turned while moving on the transverse auxiliary wheel, either manually by means of the driver or by automatic control means, by utilizing the standard vehicle control device 14. <IMAGE> |
