A bottle (12) of butane, propane, etc. is connected via a control valve (1) to a chamber (18) where gas is mixed with air from a lateral hole (20). The chamber is topped by a flame-basket (22) surmounted by an inverted frusto-conical diffusor (28) with an aperture (26) for inserting an initial igniter (match). Inside an upper ring with projections (36) for supporting pans is a plate (30). The plate has multiple small apertures (e.g. 200-400 per sq.in), and its outer face is coated with Pt, Pd, Rh or Ir catalyst extending 1-2 min into the apertures, and when hot providing continuous catalytic combustion. |
