PURPOSE:To simplify a transfer line by enabling the simple discrimination of the boundary position of a transfer article without assembling an article separator in the transfer line, by projecting ultrasonic beams to the side surface of the transfer article in the transfer direction from a plurality of ultrasonic transmitter-receivers. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of ultrasonic beam transmitter-receivers (a)-(e) are linearily arranged to the connection part of conveyors 1, 2 for moving a transfer article M along the moving direction and intermittently transmit ultrasonic beams by a pulse signal. The transmitter-receivers (b), (d) and (a), (e) are respectively allowed to transmit ultrasonic beams by the operation of an analogue switch 4 so as to be made faster by times t1, t2 than the transmitter-receiver (c) to project ultrasonic beam R to the transfer article M. Individual ultrasonic beam impinged to the transfer article M to be reflected and received by the transmitter-receives (a)-(e) while receiving signals are added by a delay adder circuit 9 to be converged to the form of reflected beam. Because this reflected beam is markedly weak at the boundary 8 between the transfer articles M as compared with the reflective surfaces before and behind said boundary 8, a place, where the amplifying value of a logarithmic amplifier 10 is sharply reduced, is judged as the boundary position of the transfer article. |
