PURPOSE:The titled hygienic capsule having smaller change of quality of drug than gelatin capsule, and improved strength, comprising a base obtained by blending a (hydroxy) alkyl-substituted cellulose ether and PVA in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The titled capsule comprising a mixture of 70-98pts.wt. cellulose ether replaced with an alkyl and/or hydroxy-alkyl group (e.g., MC, hydroxyethyl cellulose, etc.) and 30-2pts.wt. PVA) as a base. The base has lower functional properties than gelatin, and slightly causes mutual action with a drug. It will not cause brittleness even under low-humidity conditions, water content will not increase so much even under high-humidity condition, and a drug has small change of quality. The titled capsule has lower oxygen permeability and water vapor transmission, and slightly causes change of drug quality. It has merits such as higher mechanical strength than gelatin, lower susceptibility to contamination with microorganisms, etc.
