PURPOSE:To obtain the compound useful as a coagulant, emulsion stabilizer, monomer used in copolymerization for the purpose of improving dyeing property or antistatic property of fibers, etc. in good yield, by reacting a tertiary amine having a polymerizable group with an acid and an epoxide under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:An epoxide compound expressed by formula I (R represents 1-24C alkyl, alkoxymethyl or alkenyloxymethyl) is reacted with a tertiary amine having a polymerizable group expressed by formula II (R1 and R2 are respectively lower alkyl; R3 represents H, methyl or ethyl; R4 represents H or methyl; A is 2-6C alkylene) and an acid expressed by the formula HX (X is anion). The reaction is carried out using a polar organic solvent (example; methanol) containing a small amount of water, preferably containing the water in a molar amount of 5-20 times that of the compound expressed by formula II, and using the compound expressed by formula II in an excess over the amount of the acid and the compound expressed by formula I, to obtain the compound expressed by formula III.
