PURPOSE:To obtain a device to execute the shading including the classification of the inside and outside of the graphic in the display of three-dimensional graphic by selecting a pair of a luminance table referred by deciding the inside and outside of respective points of the graphic CONSTITUTION:A segment and a graphic of the surface from a processor 20 are given to a picture element generating processor 30 in the shape the peak coordinated and the unit normal vector. Simultaneously, a material index of the inside and outside is given. The material index selects a pair of the luminance table having the different contents for every material. Inner product calculation processors 41 and 42 respectively calculates the inner product, with a normal vector of an approximate polyhedron of the graphic from a picture element generating processor 30 and a light source direction, and a light source sight line intermmediate direction as an input, and the material index of the inside and outside is received from a register 43 and the reference address of the luminance table is outputted. The formula to obtain a luminance consists of the part composed of Item 1 and Item 2 and Item 3, in total two parts, and respective parts can be processed as a function of a single inner product.
