PURPOSE:To display the displacement of a movable body directly by a displacement detecting device by calculating the displacement of the movable body in the turning tool work of a lathe on the basis of the distance between the reference point of the moving body and the reference point of an object of detection. CONSTITUTION:A spindle head 2 is provided to a bed 1 and a chuck 8 is fitted thereto to clamp a work 9, which is fixed on a tailstock 3. Further, the movable body (slide) 11 is moved in the main shaft X direction and Y direction perpendic ular to it. Turning tools 151-154 are fitted to the movable body 11 and the surface of the work 9 is cut to specific size. At this time, a reference position is set where the movable body 11 moves back from the work 9. The distance between this position and the reference point of the work 9 to be detected is stored in a storage device. The position of the movable body 11 when moved in the X and Y directions is calculated on the basis of the distance Z and dis played. Therefore, the displacement of the movable body is detected and dis played directly associatively with the feed of the movable body to facilitate lathe machining.
