PURPOSE:To provide a coating containing a specified copolymer latex and a compd. with a polyalkylene oxide group and having a cracking preventive effect upon wood and excellent prolonged stability. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer latex is prepared by polymerizing 20-80wt% conjugated diolefin monomer (e.g. 1,3-butadiene), 20-70wt% vinyl cyanide monomer (e.g. acrylonitrile), 0-15wt% ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid monomer [e.g. (meth)acrylic acid] and 0-60wt% monomer copolymerizable therewith [e.g. methyl (meth)acrylate] under stirring. The coating is obtained by adding 0.2-20pts.wt. compd. with a polyalkylene oxide group [e.g. polyoxyethylene alkylphenyl ether (or sulfate thereof)] and, when necessary, additives such as filler or thickener to 100pts.wt. copolymer latex.
