PURPOSE:The title catalyst component which can give a stereoregular polymer in high yields, obtained by bringing a fatty acid magnesium salt, a dialkoxymagnesium, an aromatic dicarboxylic ester, a halohydrocarbon and a titanium halide into contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:The title catalyst component is formed by bringing a fatty acid magnesium salt (e.g., magnesium stearate), a dialkoxymagnesium (e.g., diethoxymagnesium), an aromatic dicarboxylic mono- or di-ester (e.g., dimethyl phthalate), a halohydrocarbon (e.g., methylene chloride) and a titanium halide of the formula: TiX4 (wherein X is a halogen) into contact with each other. A combination of this catalyst component with a piperidine derivative (e.g., 2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethylpiperidine) and an organoaluminum compound (e.g., triethylaluminum) is used as a catalyst for olefin polymerization.
