PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous reproduction easily and without fail by installing the identifying signal of a sound signal and a mode discriminating signal at the prescribed part of a recording signal. CONSTITUTION:A video signal is recorded through a recording circuit 2, a switch 4, a FM modulating circuit 5 and a head 6 to a disk D, a sound signal is supplied through an A/D converting circuit 13 to a memory 14 and the reading output is supplied through a D/A converting circuit 15 to a modulating 5. At such a case, an identifying signal of a sound signal and a mode discriminating signal are inserted at the prescribed timing for the signal at a disk D in a mixing circuit 16. The mode discriminating signal is used to discriminate whether the recorded track is the middle one to be reproduced continuously or the final one, and used to discriminate the compressing ratio of the sound signal recorded at the track.
