PURPOSE:To improve reliability of a memory of a color picture signal with a different information quantity after encoding processing for each color by judging an abnormality of the memory of the picture signal of at least one color when plural color signals composing a color picture are respectively encoded and stored. CONSTITUTION:A color original reading device 100 separates a color of a color picture with a filter, etc., respective color pictures are read with an image sensor of a CCd, etc., and three color signals R, G and B and signals 111, 112 and 113 are simultaneously outputted. These color signals are compressed by data compressing devices 101, 102 and 103. To control a writing address to a memory of the compressed data, memory address controllers 104, 105 and 106 are installed to respective R, G and B picture signals, and from these, compressed picture data 114, 115 and 116 and writing addresses 117, 118 and 119 are respectively outputted to screen memories 107, 108 and 109. A screen memory can store several pages of the signal of respective compressed colors respectively.
