PURPOSE:To obtain the electrode wire for electric discharge machining having a high rate of electric discharge machining, by composing the electrode wire of a Cu-LaB6 alloy containing LaB6 of specific particle size or less and Zn in a specific weight ratio. CONSTITUTION:The LaB6 powder and the Zn powder and the Cu powder are mixed mechanically to form Cu-Zn-LaB6 alloy particles in which LaB6 of <=1mu particle size is homogeneously dispersed and which has a composition consisting of 0.1-5wt% LaB6, 5-35wt% Zn, and the balance Cu. These particles are reduced, compacted, and hot-extruded, which is subjected to cold wire drawing to form the electrode wire for electric discharge machining.
