PURPOSE:To separate surely gel-like undispersed matter and to prevent the generation of a defect such as projection by cooling a magnetic paint to about <=20 deg.C, passing the paint through a filter, resting the paint to restore the room temp. and coating such paint. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water pipe 11 is wound on a paint supply pipe 10 between a pump 4 and a filter 5 of an apparatus for producing a magnetic disk medium and cooling water is supplied by said pipe. The magnetic paint prepd. by dispersing magnetic powder into a high-polymer binder is increased in temp. up to 35-40 deg.C by a ball mill, etc. but is cooled by the cooling water down to about <=20 deg.C as the paint passes through the supply pipe 10. The paint is rested in a storage tank 6 to restore the room temp. prior to coating to a substrate 9 and is then used. The gel-like undispersed matter is thus surely separated and the generation of the defect such as projection is prevented.
