PURPOSE:To make it possible to adjust the distance and angle of head gap with high efficiency and high accuracy, by providing a table movable to X-Y direction placing rotation center of gap angle adjustment at the center of one side head gap, and by providing the device which can automatically move the medium of the head assembly. CONSTITUTION:A medium used for the distance/angle adjustment of head gap is rotated at a drive part 59 equipped with arm lift function. Next, the head assembly is transferred to the specific track position automatically by driving a survomotor 52 and moving a slide table 51, and a slide table 53 is moved by rotating a handle 54 so that a theta side head can read a signal at best condition at that track position. Further at that position, an X-Ytheta table 58 on which thetatable is located over the X-Y table is moved. By this procedure, the distance and the angle between the gaps of one side head against the theta side head can be adjusted to the best condition.
