PURPOSE:To improve the quality of pictures without damaging merits of a conventional large screen display device to reproduced natural and very realistic picture by providing a resolution converting part to display the part near boundaries between a high- resolution area in the center part and a low-resolution area in the peripheral part with an intermediate resolution. CONSTITUTION:When a picture near the center part of the screen is inputted from an image pickup tube 7, a switch in a selector 12 is connected to a contact (a), and a high-resolution picture signal is sent to a CRT1 of a high resolution through a driving circuit 2. When a picture in the peripheral part of the screen is inputted from the image pickup tube 7, the switch in the selector 12 is connected to a contact (b) by an area discriminating signal from an area discriminating part 11, and the high- resolution picture signal from the image pickup tube 7 is converted to a picture signal having the intermediate resolution by a low pass filter 10, and this picture signal 14 is sent to the driving circuit 2. The peripheral part of the screen is sent to an EL display device 3 through an EL display driving circuit 4 by an image pickup tube 6. Thus, a middle-resolution area 17 having the intermediate resolution is provided on the boundaries between a high-resolution area 15 and a low-resolution area 16 by the action of a resolution converting part 5.
